THE MWALIMU NYERERE FOUNDATION RECEIVES $3M LONG TERM GRANT FROM GREYHORSE CLEARINGHOUSE LTD

Background and Summary

The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) of Tanzania has signed a $3M Endowment Fund Establishment Agreement with Greyhorse Clearinghouse limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Greyhorse Financial Corporation of USA. 

The purpose of this agreement is to operationalize an initially signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) providing a framework of cooperation and collaboration between Greyhorse Financial Corporation and the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation in the implementation of a long term programme of promoting and consolidating institutional and individual self-reliance in Tanzania (Africa) in particular and in the world in general. The initial focus of this Fund Agreement will cover the establishment of a Non-Profit Institution Endowment Fund. 

This fund agreement, therefore initiate both institutional and individual endowment funds as part of endowment fund strategy for the promotion and consolidation of institutional and individual self-reliance as follows:

1. At the level of promotion and consolidation of institutional self-reliance, an endowment fund of US

$3,000,000 will be established.

2. At the level of individual promotion and self-reliance, the focus will be the allocation of endowment

funds in the following community groups:

 Children education fund

 Teachers fund

 Mwalimu Nyerere Pan African Young Leaders fellowship virtual programme

Funding for the programme

The major initial funding for the programme will be from Greyhorse Clearinghouse limited which will

contribute an aggregate of US $3,000,000, over the ten (10) years term with annual contribution of

$300,000 distributed as follows: (A) up to $150,000, earmarked for general administrative functions of the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation and (B) $150,000, into the MNF’s Mwalimu Nyerere Endowment Fund.

Individual children, adolescents, young men and women from the age of 0 to 20 years will be covered by an endowment scheme which will guarantee their capability to meet their costs of education, possibility to start and grow their business Individual teachers will be covered by an endowment scheme which will incentivize and motivate them and ensure terminal benefits to enable them to enhance their self-reliance capacity in provision of housing or any few economic undertaking.

African young men and women will be virtually trained in leadership for the promotion of peace, African  unity, and people centered self-reliance development including training for capacity building and stringent standards of integrity and ethical behavior for the betterment of society across Africa,

The programme will be implemented through detailed projects and/or initiatives which will cover areas of

initial focus on:

1. Mwalimu Nyerere Endowment Fund

2. Tanzania Children Education Fund

3. Tanzania Teachers Fund

4. Mwalimu Nyerere Pan African Young Leaders fellowship virtual programme

Additional informations on the Programme and stakeholders

This Endowment is entirely a private-sector initiative rooted in corporate trusteeship. It primarily addresses the institutionalization of result-oriented, commercialized financial interventions in aid of clear objectives of the MNF and all of its active stakeholders going forward. Topmost priority is accorded to financial inclusion via self reliance initiatives of the stakeholders and beneficiaries of the MNF, in all of their charitable and allied endeavours via the Foundation.

The scope of relevance of this Endowment is to consequentially bring together all facets of productive

operations of the Foundation for mutual advantage and that of the beneficiaries. The interest and co-

involvement of all stakeholders and representatives from the Foundation and its good works informs and helps to formulate the Endowment.

Administration and management of the Endowment is by Greyhorse Asset Management division acting

through a designated endowment trust council which includes selected expert personnel from the

Foundation.

Actual contribution and trusteeship are the direct responsibility of Greyhorse acting through its

collaborative proprietary worldwide financial networks under the leadership of its founder and executive chairman, Mr. Rahim Thawer, and its boards and associated firms and institutional funds in New York and London.
